About a year ago, my yorkie/chi was killed. This really upset me & my entire family. Lately, i have really been wanting to get another puppy. I really like scottish terriers. But, i dont have any breeders in my area. My friends dog just had puppies, shih-tzu/miniature poodle, and she said i could have one for free. ive been waiting for the right dog to come into my life, but im confused about whether or not i should continue searching for a scottie, or take on ofmy friends puppies.

What should I do?

thats really sad i think you should really think hard and if you feel that you like this dog but youd rather really find that terrier than do it but if this little thing is something good to then just follow your heart babe nothing will help you more than your heart. i now how hard a decision is but just think if you wait you might never get a dog but if you do get this dog wont last foever either not to put you down but still you know what im saying. so think really hard. if you believe in god pray it always helps. just do what you think is right . be stong babecakes.

If i were you i would keep searching for the Scottie. I really want an American Pit Bull Terrier or an American Bulldog, but my apartment does not allow these dogs. I was thinking about just getting a lab or something that is allowed, but then i thought, i am going to have this dog for 11-14 years, i should choose the dog that i REALLY want. So i have decided to wait until we get a house, and get the dog of my dreams. I know you feel like you need the dog Right Now, because i felt that way. But think about the future. You will love your puppy, but you will STILL want that Scottie. I hope this helps, and i hope you find your Scottie. You can try looking on petfinder.com to see if there are any Scottish Terriers in your area that are in need of a home. Good Luck!!!

I don't know where you live, but i found one on petfinder.com quite eaily:

What do you want to do inside?? Are you dying for a scottie or is it just a breed you have found an interest for? First start here : www.akc.org > breeders > scotties. Look them up. Read about them, they have a really interesting personality and can be hard to train. (I have a dog from the terrier group). I also have shih -tzu's and they are very different from one another. My male is very smart and learns everything very easy. My female is very head strong and refuses to potty outside. She also refuses to come when called.
Poodles on the other hand, don't shed, talk back and are very smart. They train well and do everything you want them to do to the T. So, you could spend anywhere from $400.00 (pet grade) to $2500.00 (breeding grade) on a scottie or you can take your friends offer to take a puppy of hers. It is all up to you. But we the general populace cannot make your mind up!
Its a tough choice, but I know you will make the right one for you!
Good Luck!

If the mom has a good temperment then you should take one of your friends puppies. You never know what you are getting into when you get a purebred dog. If you really want a scottie look for one at your local animal shelter. It will be so grateful to you that you saved it.

Spend a lot of time at your friend's house playing with the puppies when they are old enough. One of those pups may just steal your heart. If not, I would wait for the Scottish Terrier, but I just bet your next pet will be one of your friend's puppies.

Our miniature schnauzer died last year and it was devastating for our whole family, he was just like a son. We waited and looked around for the right puppy and finally found him two weeks ago. Don't get just any puppy, wait for "the one". If you really want a scottie then just hang in there and wait til you can find one. You'll be happier in the long run.

After my family's dog died we wanted to be sure that the next one we got was right for us. We passed up a lot of opportunities but in the end took a dog that just felt "right" So fallow your intuition and don't decide too quickly.

Check local pounds. They usually have several different breeds of dogs, but there are adoption fees to pay.

If you don't want to pay anything, then go ahead and get a puppy from your friend. Just make sure to get them fully vaccinated.

Follow your heart. If you meet the puppy and fall in love and want to take it then do. If not then please go to http://www.petfinder.com and do a search for scottish terriers and you will find many waiting for a wonderful home.

check out your friends puppies. If you like them, take one. If not, then keep looking for your scottish terrier
