It is an unfamiliar area, doubt it will come back. Probably trying to get back to where it came from. Best of luck.

Assuming the cat has not run into trouble, he will come back if he wants to. He will be able to find his way back with no problems. He may have felt overwhelmed and needed to get some space to make sense of the new changes. He may also have sensed a female in the area. I would leave some of his familiar food and some water and something he owned outside for him to come back to. Good luck. I hope he comes home soon.

If he's lived with your friend for five years before you took him...he is heading back to where he consideres 'home'...your friends place. You might try putting Lost cat posters around the area and check with the local Humane Society to see if anyone turned in a stray cat. The more people who see the poster...the faster results you will have in getting the cat back. Good Luck.
