My husband got a turkey given to him at work Thanksgiving of 2005. It was a fresh turkey and immediately was put into my deep freezer. How long is it good for if it has been frozen hard as a rock? I dont want to roast it and give my whole family salmonella!!

If properly wrapped and not freezer-burned it will be fine. I've kept turkeys that long and never had a problem.

You can't get salmonella from frozen food unless it was infected prior to freezing.

A frozen turkey can last well over a year if held at 0 degrees F and protected well from freezer burn.
You will not get salmonella or any other micro because you will cook to over 185 degrees F in the center when preparing it!!!!
the only difference will be a possible slight difference in flavor but since flavor is low in turkey who will ever even pick up on that when you have so many spices, gravies, or dressings, etc.
Not a problem.

As long as you cook it to temperature. You wont get sick. The only real concern is freezer burn which will make the turkey yucky tasting. if it has been sealed and protected properly. Thaw and roast it. If when you remove the plastic and it has spots of discoloration. Toss it.

You can only get salmonella poisoning from not cooking it thoroughly. All poultry has naturally-occurring salmonella bacteria.

I'd worry more about the freezer burn, but it still won't kill you.
