I really love him, but I want compassion in a guy. I tell him this and he said he always tries, but I don't see it. What should I do?

It might just be his basic personality that he isn't expressive. Compassion and being able to express it are two different things. Is he expressive about his feelings on other things? How about with other people, like his sister, brother, or family?

If it's just you, then it may be that he doesn't have the core feeling about you that you are looking for. However, if it's his basic personality, then it will be a gradual learned process. It's not something that will happen overnight where he will become an expressive person.

Be aware that when he says he tries, you are judging by your standards. If your normalcy is a lot more expressive and it comes naturally to you, then you will not see the small steps he is taking.

You won't like my answer...but...this is where women fail in relationships. They think that everything should be like it is on TV and the movies. Love, rose petals, candle light dinners. It isn't always like that. What guys find romantic is completely different from our view. I have truly come to appreciate what men do do for us that escapes a lot of women.

When a guy says, here let me clean the kitchen for you since you cooked dinner...that's romantic to me. He is so thoughtful for the effort it took to cook the dinner that he cleaned.

When a guy says, I'm making you dinner tonight. It ends up with hot dogs and beer. It's the thought that counts.

When a guy says, damn woman, you can never take care of your car...let me do it for you. It's just an oil change and he comes back with the car inspected, the car washed and all the fluids have been checked and filled.

When he comes up behind you while you are on the computer and just gives you a light touch.

To me all these things are an expression of love. They don't have to do it vocally for me to know they love me. This is the way the show their compassion.

You just have to look at him differently. He might not show compassion in traditional ways. If it's really there, you'll have this great epiphany moment when you realize that he cares.

People only know what theyve been taught, if hes not as compassionate as you like either try to teach him how to be, and be patient, or just accept the fact thats not his strongets trait. He could be alot worse!
