Nun's don't get married because in order to become a Nun you have to renounce marriage and temptations of the flesh. They do this to devote the time they normally would be spending on a family to spend it in devotion to God. I know there are Nun's that have stopped being Nun's but because they make a promise to become one it's not always the most lauded option. I am not sure of the process they go through to stop being a Nun though.

Yes, they can stop being a nun but, it takes special permission because they go through a long discernment process before they can become one in the first place. They are married to Christ is why they cannot become married. They are to be the epitome of the Church in it's relation to Christ. It is a special relationship to Christ and should be reverenced alot more than what it is.
Contrary to the above supposed HISTORIAN, there were several nuns who were beautiful rich women who gave up everything for Jesus. They were not only ugly poor things. Some very great Saints were nuns that came from very wealthy families.

When the Cath. ch. was becoming the powerful political power that it did finally become, it was in direct oppoition of iheritance laws of the day.... If a man owned something, his legitimate sons received it upon his death. Thus, if a man were a cath. priest, and he had a wife, his property would have gone to that eldest son. The church was not stupid---- by outlawing marriage among its priests, the church could keep the property....Thus, the church made marriage not legal among its priests.... and therefore the church kept the property, not the family. This is not to say that priests were celibate --- they certainly were not, Many priests lived with women, and had children during the time we call the Dark Ages, and some popes also had children, but it was in the eyes of the law that made these children bastard children, and therefore not heirs to property.... as a result, the Catholic church of today, is more wealthy than many countries.
Tho women held no such great power in these early days of the christian church (before the 1500 the only christian church was the catholic one) women wish to be part of the church... if for no other reason that to have 3 square meals per day --- an unmarried woman lived with her family until she married... if she was as ugly as a sack of rocks, she did not usually marry, and thus became a nun... today, nuns certainly do leave the church to marry, but few do. They receive a life of no monetary worries, and are in essence married to Jesus...

My family has been good friends with a woman who used to be a nun. She met a man who was a missionary for our church. They were doing service at a hospital and they started talking about religion. They ended up really likeing each other. She held to the belief that she was married to Christ and couldn't be in love with this man. She ended up praying about it, to find out what she should do and the message was very clear.. She needed to leave the nunnery and marry this man. She says that she went to tell her Mother Superior that she had prayed about it and her Mother Superior said that if God wanted that for her, then there was a reason and she would always be welcome back. But she said that this lady would be excommunicated if she joined our church. She knew what her answer was and left the catholic church. They got married and now have 4 children. She says that her understanding of the catholic church has helped her in her life, and that she needed that experience to know for herself what she really believed. She said she is very thankful that God took the time to answer her prayer, and if he would answer a prayer for her, that He would answer a prayer for anyone. She said it was the hardest decision she ever made, but it was what was right for her, and there have been many times in her life when that has been confirmed for her. She still has some of the manorisms of a nun. She's very soft-spoken and she holds her hands the way you see nuns do it. She kept her bible from the nunnery and has kept a few other things. She says she cherishes the time she had there, and that her life would't be complete without that experience.

The Catholic Church wants them to stay unmarried because they can dedicate their whole life to the Church. Yes, they can stop being one, my Grandmother was a nun before she met my Grandpa, after they met, the sisterhood was not for her. She remained a deeply religious person.

Nuns do get married... to God.
Some Nuns do decide to stop being one and they are allowed to do so. (Though of course people try to talk them into staying.)

Well, for bious reasons, they do believe they are married to God. (which idk how, lol) they also made many pacts, to stay with the church, of abstenance, and of well being loyal and sacred while representing the church they reside to. Yeah they can stop being a nun, but supposedly if you do then they will be punished in the afterlife. hey, it sucks, i kno lol

They made a vow of celibacy to God. And to them they are married to God. And if you are celibate you can't have sex. I believe that if they got married that their husband would like some!
I think that they are allowed to stop. But to them they are turning their back on God because they devoted their life to him and only him.
