In a recent ABC poll, 83% of Americans identified themselves as Christian.
Does anyone think that this means that 83% of Americans believe in talking serpents or believe that God really stopped the Sun in the sky so some human beings would have more light to kill other human beings?

Wow, Christian Warrior, you actually think 83% of Americans are atheists? . . . . I wonder how many of your fellow warriors would agree with that. If it's true, then they certainly haven't been doing a very good job of advancing the fundamentalist, bible-believing view, have they?

I have to admit, the answers I've received have been a bit of a surprise. I know a lot of you fundamentalists like to say that we're a Christian nation, that the Founders were fine bible literalist Christians like you, but then you turn around and say that most of the people in American who say they're Christians really aren't real Christians. Jesus Warrior even says that she thinks 83% of Americans are atheists! Does this mean we're an atheist nation? And with all your fine witnessing, we're still an atheist nation?

ABC may not have their DEF's in order. I believe that there are fewer Christians in the USA than there are Agnostics and Atheists combined. I suggest that you grab a BIBLE and study these verses.
Study these scriptures and see what you think. To become a Christian:
HEAR - Romans 10:14 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?
BELIEVE - In Mark 16:16, Jesus said “He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.”
REPENT - Luke 13:3 I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.
CONFESS CHRIST - 1 Timothy 6:12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
BE BAPTIZED - Romans 6:3-4 do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
CONTINUE TO BE FAITHFUL - Jesus said in Matthew 7:21 "Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.”
Send me a note if you have questions. I am anxious to hear from you. Have a Great day.

The term Christian is used very loosely. Many people think that just because they were born in a Christian nation, or born to Christian parents, or even go to church twice a year then they are Christians. However, none of those things make a person a Christian. A Christian is someone who has accepted Jesus Christ as their personal savior and has dedicated their life to serving Him.

I think it simply means that 83% of Americans believe in some kind of God. It may not mean that they go to church every Sunday, or worship, but they believe In God.

That means the person answering the question identified themselves as Christians. I have known people who believe Catholics, Mormons, Jehovahs Witnesses, and Unitarians are not Christians (I knew one guy who said the only Christians were Southern Baptists!). I have known people who do consider all of them to be Christians; and the groups themselves (except the Unitarians) do consider themselves Christians. I doubt that 83% believe the things you mention.

If they are christians then that 83 percent of them believe in God as the creator and His son Jesus who became a human and died for our sins so that we may have eternal life. As for the talking serpent..yes, they believe that was satan who was tempting eve with his lies. God created the sun to do lots of jobs..and if man chooses to use that light to go and kill others, don't blame God..satan uses the light too...and so do his followers.

Religiously, you are what you label yourself, not what others label you as. Otherwise, the government would have to put restrictions on people so that they would have to meat certain criteria in order to be labeled a Christian. And in a democracy, that would, and could never happen.

I think 83% of Americans are either Liberal Christians or Atheists, which may actually be the same thing.
With the love of junk culture, baby killing and porn, this culture is getting more and more satanic everyday.

They are church people, but their religion is nothing like the religion Jesus had.
They believe a lot of weird things, but the term "Christian" is very loosely applied.
If Jesus could somehow come back to life, he would have no idea what they are.

Real Christians? Ha! It pains me to say this but I think the only real Christians are Shirley Phelps and her little cohorts.
"I'm gay and christian" not possible.
"I believe in god but don't think he minds if I do what I want." not possible.
"I like this one so I'll do it but I don't like this one so I won't do it." Hypocritical.
