Yeah, my daughter's toys are all in the same spot every time. The books are arranged smallest to tallest. They all go in the same spot on the same shelf. Not just toys, but clothes and other stuff too.
She's only 2, so she doesn't share the same analness in keeping things neat, but if she finds everything in the same spot every time, she will learn to pick up after herself eventually.

I am pretty meticulous........but kind of relaxed about it.
I know, that makes no sense...........But.....
I have a toybox for larger toys....all the big stuff is just dumped in there. There is a basket for stuffed animals. I have a bookshelf. The books are grouped by type (board books, Little golden, etc) but are not in any order.
I have a wooden rack with the bins. each bin holds one type of thing: peek a blocks, roll-a-rounds, Little people. I keep everything separate and organized, but in a kid-friendly way.
my daughter is too young to pick up her own toys. but before her bath, we go around and I put everything away and show her what I am doing. I make sure all the parts are there before the toy is put away (all the shapes are in the sorter, etc) and all the toys go back where they belong before we are done for the night. so I guess, yes.......I am pretty meticulous.

Oh, I am really bad about it. My 3 little ones all have their own rooms, and from the time they could understand, I started showing them how their things are put away. Its funny because they all have this organizational way about them too! Everything has its own special spot, and if for some reason a piece to a puzzle is missing, or one of the Fisher Price Little People ( we have like 30 different sets), it will really eat at me, and I actually won't be able to sleep until its found! Its really weird because we don't put any emphasis on material items whatsoever, but I just have to have everything in a certain spot, or lined up a certain way!

Please don't be an overachiever about keeping the toy room totally spotless. Yes, at the end of the day it is nice to have a place for everything, and everything in it's place, so the room looks nice, and you know where things are for the next day of play time. But if one thing is out of place occasionally, no big deal. Please don't be/get obsessive about it. Neatness is nice, at the end of the day. Take care.
