My dog is starting to lift his leg when he pee's. He's going it all over the house. Will this go away. He never would pee in the house only when we first got him. What should I do?

My dog started to do the same thing when he was around 1 year old. The way we trained him to stop was we started to yell at him when we found the pee. We pointed his nose where he peed, called him a bad boy and then took him outside (or whever you want him to pee). Then when he peed outside we called him a good boy and pet him.

Hope this helps! Good Luck!

Depends on the dog. My two and a half year old Labrador still "squats" most of the time, but is finally starting to lift his leg - and that's with another male dog in the family who lifts his leg on everything that moves, so you think he'd copy! Other dogs I've had started at about 6 months to a year. No actual time, and I know someone whose dog never bothered to lift all his life, so I guess you can't really tell. Doesn't really matter - easier to walk when you don't have to stop at every tree or lamp post to annoint it!

All boy dogs do this when they pee. Puppies squat, big dogs lift their leg. It's a territory thing. I bet he's just getting to be an adult dog, as opposed to being a puppy? Get him fixed. Better for you, better for him. He won't wander so much and he'll probably calm down, too. From what I understand a male dog that is not fixed, and not used for breeding gets problems similar to an older man..prostate type stuff that I refer to as "clogged plumbing".

This will not go away. Your dog thinks he is the pack leader. Does he try to hump you too? You need some rules and limitations going and quick. If you catch him in the act give him a stern no and take him out. I would suggest watching the dog whisperer and taking his advice for walking and showing your dog your the leader.

I allow my dog to mark trees and stuff when I'm out and about but he does it on my terms while walking on a leash. No yanking on me to go to a post or tree. I'm always in control. Hes a hunting dog and we have a working relationship as well as a good friendship.

A dog lifting it's leg is normal... Don't worry. :D

That's only normal for a male pooch. If it's a
female--well then you do have a strange dog.

He is marking his territory. Scold him and take him outside. If the problem doesn't stop take him to the vet and get him neutered.
