I've heard there is MORE domestic abuse on that day. I doubt any reliable statistics are readily available for either. Some one told me once that the hour after the Super Bowl was the busiest hour for 991 calls. The claim was that people put off calling during the game and then they all call as soon as the game ends.

I used to listen to my police scanner 24/7. I was amazed how many domestic abuse, and families disturbing the peace calls went out on Christmas, Easter, and other big holidays. Until I figured out why. I figured the Dad or Mom never liked the new son in law, or daughter in law, and so the only time they would visit would be on these holidays. They get a few drinks in them, things are said, and the next thing you know the crap hits the fan.
