Do it yourself, spend the money you save to paint it or re-wallpaper.Buy one of those thick sponges that they sell at Home Depot. Use warm water and dish soap, soak the wall well. Let set for ten minutes, re-wet wall, use scraper to scrape the paper off the wall. Sometimes you can get a hold of a corner and pull away slowly and get the whole sheet off at one time. Wet the wall again, the brown stuff is the backing to the wallpaper and must come off. It takes a little time, but is well worth the money that you save, doing it your self.Let the wall dry for a couple of days before painting. Do not use Behr paint from Home Depot, its like trying to paint with milk, to many coats for coverage. Go with Glidden or Sherwin Williams paint instead.

That depends on the contractor. Usually the charge by the hour as it is hard to determine how long it will take.
It isn't a hard job really. Just takes time and is messy.
If you'd like to try, I'll give you directions.
Purchase a tank sprayer, like they kill weeds and bugs with. It doesn't need to be a large one. Mix some soap, laundry works well because it doesn't suds a lot, but ammonia works too. The soap is a wetting agent.
If the paper is newer, it will have vinyl on the outside, if it is older, not so. If it has vinyl, purchase a wallpaper bug. This is a hand held perforator to punch little bitty holes in the paper to let the water penetrate.
While purchasing the bug, get a wallpaper scraper too. This has a plastic blade, and won't damage the wall when removing the paper.
Also, purchase some plastic. Usually the plastic used to cover windows in the winter, 3 mils is sufficient. Put the plastic down so as to cover the entire carpet.
Start at the top and see if you can't peel a little tab back some and spray the soap/water mixer behind it. Don't get in a hurry; just keep soaking it down repeatedly. Don't let it get dry.
If it is vinyl covered, it should trap the water behind it, and actually aid in removal.
If you've done it correctly, the paper will almost fall off the wall. Just keep wetting it down, and don't get in a hurry.
I have found that it can take 2 hours to remove it from the wall, but I am not working at it continually. I wet is, sit down read a while, wet it more, read some more. LOL
Good Luck

i really don't realize this question yet i imagine i understand what you're asking. in case you take advantage of a steamer the wall paper will come off a lot extra ordinary. The ironmongery shop might want to truly have wall paper stripper or something of that sort.

Getting a contractor to remove old wallpaper is the most expensive way to do this job. Remember , when you hire a professional , you pay for a professional. Do it yourself , you don't want to pay a carpenter , painter or other professional to do such a job. Ask the question "How do I take wallpaper off in the easiest manner ?"

you can probably find someone to do it for 10 bucks per hour....a contractor is over qualified and will charge more.
Better yet, it's easy to do yourself. Get a sprayer, some glue deactivator and putty knife and you're in business..oh, and TSP to clean the walls.
The key is to soak the walls good, and score them with a scoring tool for 3 or 4 bucks. It peels off like buttah
