I believe so. A weak system can bring on all sorts of maladies. The solution is a healthy diet and exercise routine with a comprehensive cognitive therapy program.

No, but depression can cause physical symptoms. Being physically sick doesn't cause you to cry uncontrollably. Something is, however, causing you to have these crying spells. With not knowing your background (age, situation, etc) it's hard to answer your question. It might be something 'hormonal'. As soon as your feeling better, you should make an appointment with your physician to have a complete physical.

Depression, on the other hand, can cause you to have actual symptoms (upset stomach, headaches, difficulty eating, etc). I am a RN who also struggles with depression. I feel like an 'expert' for the simple reason of having to live with depression for most of my life. If you do discover that you are having a 'depressive episode', then seek help from your family and friends. You will start to feel better soon. Also keep in mind, that when we are sick, it lowers our own 'security' blanket, and we may feel like a child, and want to lie in bed with the covers over our heads until we feel better. Good luck.

Being physically ill can definitely bring on depression...think about it. You are sick of being sick and it's literally bringing you down. There is a mind-body connection with depression...just like depression can cause physical ailments like chest pain, back aches, migraines etc...

You need to make sure to get plenty of rest, eat healthy and keep up your fluids. It should pass soon. If you find that it does not subside after a couple of weeks or so then I would suggest seeking the advice of a physician. Keep a diary to help you keep track of your moods, how you are feeling physically etc. It can be helpful...

Hope you get better soon...take care.

Stuff like this happens. Physicall illness can cause depression. It's normal. I've been through the same thing. You just can't help but feel sad, but for no apparent reason. It'll pass, but don't worry about it. Its just a phase. There's nothing wrong with you, its just that life's got you down. Just express your emotions and you'll be better in no time.

Yes, I think being sick can leave the door open to depression like that. I can get depressed just from being tired after a bad day at work. I would say there's nothing wrong with you. Just remember that 'good' days are going to be back again, with you out on a sunny warm day.

The mind and the body are part of the same thing. You definitely can feel depressed because of a physical sickness.

ABSOLUTELY! Physical illness is a MAJOR cause of depression and the reverse is true: depression can cause major illness. Both are serious problems and should be given great attention and care. Don't let this knowledge get you down, instead, find treatment. Good luck to you!

I almost always get depressed or feel really blue before I get a cold or the flu. It's strange, but maybe it has something to do with my body trying to fight it off! I am not surprised that you feel down after being sick. Take good care of yourself, drink plenty of water, get good rest, take vit. C, etc. It will pass. If you still feel blue after you have recovered completely, there is nothing wrong with talking to your doctor about it. :o)

yes being sick can bring on depression. I am sick all the time and i keep falling into this depression mode. get some sleep and when you get better in a few days you should be back to normal. if it goes alot longer go to the doctor and talk to him/her about it.

Yes, actually. If you were sick for multiple days, your body needs time to recover. You may be experiencing neurochemical imbalances due to Potassium or Sodium deficiencies associated with illness. Your body loses a lot of nutrition when you have diarrhea or are vomiting. Eat a lot of nutritious, high-calorie food.
