Congratulations, now is the best time to start, so you can have the day as you both want, the best places for the peak seasons book up quickly and long in advance so if you plan a peak season wedding IE Oct to march (in Au) (spring summer) then check out the places now and book. You will need at least 7-8 months for your dress to be ready, and about 6 months for brides maids, and flowers so you can match them. if your not getting married in a church you'll need to book a celebrant early as well, so you can ensure that your not just going to end up with a party. good luck and enjoy your engagement.

If you're planning to have a religious ceremony to accompany the wedding reception, I would wait until after you have spoken to the religious officiant just to make sure you have all pre-req.'s covered before you start. It would be a bit of a bummer to start planning everything for a certain day, only to have to reschedule everything because your officiant requires other things, etc. If no religious ceremony is to accompany the reception, I would start planning about a year before the desired date. Wedding trends change, so what you plan to be as the wedding of your dreams for this year, may not be so trendy a year from now.
Happy planning and Congrats!

you can start gathering ideas now, setting a budget, saving money and possibly getting quotes for things. If you have your heart set on a specific location, then book that venue. Venues fill up quickly. Ohh, yeah....pick a date.
Everything else; like the dress, colors, food, reception details can all wait. Start thinking about those around about 12 months before the wedding.

You cant realy plan much until you get a concrete wedding date. But for now I would suggest collecting ideas of what you want. Get a few bridal magazines and start ripping out and saving pages with things that you like. Also go online and look around.
But once you get your wedding date all settled, then you should start planning right away.
Best wishes!

Give yourself a month and just enjoy the engagement. It was really good advice I was given and did not take! I have realized a long engagement (1-2 years) just means more time to stress about things. In a month, start talking about dates and when you want to get married.

Depends. Some venues are booked at least a year in advance. You need to decide on some things and then get a tentative idea of what you need to do & when to start.
If you want to email me, I have a planning list I offer my brides.

go ahead and start getting the magazines and you need a good year to plan it all. A lot of the better reception places book a year in advance.

Well first set a date... then I would think just to get ideas just buy some magazines and do some research online. www.theknot.com is a great place to get ideas from. You don't need to start picking out your seating arragements but being on top of things cant hurt! Good Luck!

Start getting ideas as soon as you can. Start by deciding where you will have the ceremony and reception and look for available dates.

well the longer you plan the better your wedding will be. do not bore him with all the details unless he asks. also remember that during the wedding rehearsal when you do a run through do not worry about everything being perfect. if everything is perfect during the wedding rehearsal it will go wrong during wedding.
