Some churches maintain a very old-fashioned attitude about gender roles. It goes back to the commandment in the Mosaic Law that it is an abomination to God for men to dress as women and for women to dress as men. A lot has changed since those days. When that was written, there were no two-legged pants. But since pants became identified with men in western culture throughout most of the 1500's until the 1950's, they view pants as sinful on a woman. These are usually also the "holiness" churches who also believe that *anything materialistic is sin. The wearing of jewelry to include a wedding ring. The cutting of a woman's hair... lots and lots of rules that men imposed upon other men that have little basis in the understanding of relationship with our Creator.

They believe you are being modest when you dress this way. I have been to many churches that believe this. It goes along with some churches believing that you shouldn't wear makeup or cut your hair. They think that you are being flashy or vain. Maybe you should try another kind of church. I don't believe that this is a sin nor will your decisiono to do it or not do it will decide your fate in heaven or hell. The best thing is to read the Bible and see what you think about it.
I've seen churches that believe this and then let the teenagers come in with dresses way above the knee. Everyone goes to the alter to pray and the girls are yanking at their skirt tails to try to keep from showing up their dress. That was permitted and not spoken of, but at the same time someone coming in in pants was looked down upon.

I believe there is an injunction somewhere in Scripture that says women are not supposed to wear men's clothing. However, if you go back to the time when the scriptures were written, men and women both wore robe-like garments; neither sex wore trousers. Which may explain why some churches don't make a big deal out of a woman wearing pants, while other churches, who take the words written in Scripture literally, so women wearing trousers as being wrong.

From what I have learned from being around many Christians, is that they believe men should only dress in pants,so as not to dress like a woman. which is sin to some because of a certain bible scripture. as well as women dressing like men, pants. also pants to them are sexual showing more shape of the body than the long skirts. My opinion its sin to judge how people dress. Hope this helps.

The legalistic movement is what caused this. The legalistics believe that you have to dress a certain way and act a certain way in order to be saved, which is not true. Legalistic people are the Christians that take the law of Moses and apply it to today. That law was abolished and taken away when Christ died for us. It no longer applies.

Deut 22:5 says a woman should not wear clothing that pertains to a man. (I'm not real sure that it means no pants, but some folks think so)
