If prophet Muhammed was sent by God to deliver a message shouldnt it have been one of love, compassion, forgiveness, peace and the biggest of all tolerance, meaning a respect for other peoples beliefs? The term Jihad to me means condoning war or an uprising, it doesnt mean peace . Isnt that a negative for any religion? Shouldnt peace be the main focus of such a major religion in todays society?

It means the legal, compulsory, communal effort to expand the territories ruled by Muslims at the expense of territories ruled by non-Muslims. Not to extend Islam but to extend sovereign Muslim power.

Jihad doesnt mean war.
As smiley said it is struggle. If i try to abstain from a mistake then it is jihad. If i work hard to support my family its jihad. If i try to prevent a person from doing a sin ( not by attacking him, but even by words) then its jihad.
If a person fights to me and i try to protect myself then its jihad.

Jihad doesnt mean war on other countries to bring up islam.
Islam never appreciates war or fight. Islam allows it only for self existense or self protection.

It is some extremists creating all these problems n saying they r muslims. If they r true muslims then they shud b doing it for self existence n also they can't kill innocent people for that.

My advice to all is
To understand islam please just read the chapter Al-Bakrah in Quran using a good translation. You will understand what islam is teaching. Reading that will increase ur interest to read n understand the rest of quran.

Jihad doesn't mean war, it means struggle. This can be the struggle against an oppressor, or the struggle against sin. Yes, all religions strive for peace, at their root. It is humans that try to take it in other directions.

JIhad have lots of meanings, i'll tell u some of them but i don't recall the original speches BY mohamed (pbuh), If ur in ur work, whatever it is, ur in jihad, if ur helping anybody, ur in jihad, if u fight for the name of god, ur in jihad. i don't know if u r against wars or what, but some rights taken by force, won't get back unless with force. God have 99 names and one of them is peace. Everywere i go i say Peace( salamo aleikom). It's not like we wake up everytime and want to fight.
When our lands are taken, we must fight?? don't u think so. If someone is attacking us. we should fight back?? Whatever u listen to or people say that's the only meaning of jihad. Killing women and children and men who do nothing to us is murder. Hope u understand.

The way to peace for Muslims is through 100% conversion of the entire human race. There are some Muslim groups who believe this can only be achieved by killing the non-believers.
It's a, "you're either with us or against us" mentality.

Peace be with you. The truth shall make you free.

And when Moses came down from the mountain of God, with the 10 Commandments, he order the the slaughter of 3000 of his kinsmen.

Thou shall not resist evil,
Thou shall give to all that asked,
And the soldiers ask " what shall we do" and he answered "DO Violence to no man"
And Jesus said unto them "Greater love hath no man then this
that a man LAY DOWN his life for his friends"

Do not judge, first take the beam from thine eye, and then you can see.
