Sweetie, the breed of chicken can play a factor, but doesnt always.A dark colored chicken can lay a white egg,and a white chicken can lay a dark egg, therefore the color of the chicken definately doesnt effect the egg.The biggest factor that determines whether an egg is "darker" or "whiter" is actually what they consume(eat).I dont eat eggs, but i used to,the darker colored eggs, tend to have a more "rich" yolk.Their flavor is a tad richer, but there really isnt a drastic difference and nutritionally they are the same..Have a good night hun,and good luck.

The breed of the chicken determines the color of the shell it has nothing to do with the color of the CHICKEN. Many people in the north east prefer the darker colored shells. Nutritionally and in every other way they are the same.

The only difference is the breed of chicken that laid the egg. White, generic hens lay white eggs. Rhode Island Reds and others lay colored eggs.
