Well cosidering that the average person will not take action unless that action is "easy" and "cheap".

So.. you need to present them with a way to do their part which will not cost a huge investment or will take huge sacrifices.

You received many good suggestions. You really have to get involved in the political end of it yourself. An environmental group in your area is a great start. You will make friends and find who can help you with your suggestions.

Find other cities that have utilized green ideas and find a contact person. How did they get the ball rolling, how much did it cost & how long did it take, what worked well and what problems did they run into.... Continue to educate yourself on green technologies. Good Luck and I hope you succeed with your wonderful aspirations!

1) There are avenues for citizen input on such matters--city council meetings and public hearings, and the same regarding zoning, etc.
2) There will be environmental action group(s) in your city. Get in touch with them to volunteer on projects to promote the things you want to see happen.
3) Find out what candidates for city offices stand for--and support them; if you have time volunteer as a campaign worker for someone whose positions on the environment are compatible with yours.

Join a group that is involved in that political stance. Or, write a letter or email. You would be surprised how much politicians listen when they have received a number of letters or emails on a topic.
