This is an age old question. God only knows what we will do But we make the choice, so it is free will.

Both operate at the same time. Predestination can be altered by free will to an extent, but sometimes when an event occurs that your free will, could not stop or prevent, I would label as predestiny, something that was meant to be for whatever reason. This is where God or Source intervenes as not always are we able to execute our free will with adequate judgment or understanding. I do believe in divine intervention. And I also believe in free will. But the powers that be are very forgiving and our free rein is more the rule than not. We're always given enough rope to either hang ourselves or save ourselves!

Well, if you are religious, which im not... The belief of predestination in my opinion was created to keep people in line... if there wasn't religion in the world it would probably be a much worse place to live. Religion established some basic moral rules that each person should follow and out of the fear of god... people have done so... Free will is granted to everyone the second of their birth... No one is obligated to do anything... Jean Jacques Rousseau once said: Man is born free yet everywhere he is in chains... He may or may not have had religion in mind when he said this...

What caused you to believe in free will Nina? What caused that? etc. If you follow this chain of logic, you will be able to see that predestination is inevitable. However if believing in free will makes you feel better, good for you, I can't take that away from you. We live in a Universe of cause and effect, this makes absolute free will impossible. The decisions we make are based only on curent and past experiences.

The answer is unknowable! Predestination requires a god or intelligence who created the Cosmos and planned every minutest detail of it in its entirety from the beginning of time to its end -- quite a feat! Free will is limited by governments, by laws, by social mores, by education, intellect, physical abilities and disablities, training, fears -- the parameters of life. We have no REAL means of knowing which is true, and death may not provide the answer either...

I think we're predestined to have free will. Or is that free to think we are predestined? Predestined to think that we are free? We will be free to be predestined! No, free to be predestined if we will! I like that one.

People have argued this for a long time. I want to believe in free will but, how would you know if it were free will? If your being told how to think and act then you wouldn't know.
