Im doing a paper on islam and was reading a book (childrens book actually) and every time it said Muhammad it had a thing next to it, i cannot discribe it really well but it looks like a line and then a oval on its side. Whats it for?

i think i means that it is an inportant name thats being mentioned, and they was people to recognise that it is important ,or it must have a special meaning behind it..not really 100% sure either, but good question

it is "sall allah alaih wa sallam" which is Peace and blessings be upon him in Arabic. they use it because it looks nice perhaps.
