Maybe it's just me, but are parents teaching there children manners any more? I was at the grocery store and got cut off and bumped in to and ever pushed, not a single person said "excuse me" or "Sorry" or any thing and when I would say excuse me because I wanted to get past these kids just looked at me. Maybe it's just because I'm in Central California, but I'm use to people using there manners back where I come from. I just cant believe that the people here are so RUDE! WTF???

My 4 year old daughter has better manners then most of the adults here, she even says "mommy that person is SO rude they didn't even say excuse me!"

No people are not teaching their kids manners. People have become very self-centered and that mindset gets passed down to the kids. You see the lack of manners even in small towns nowadays. Unfortunately this is the direction our society is heading towards. Remember the phrase "It takes a village to raise a child" the next time you come across a rude kid. Kids only know what they are taught and if they aren't getting it at home, then maybe a run-in with someone who does have manners may straighten them out.

The manners I have taught my children actually get me kudos all the time. I can't believe good manners in a child these days is such a surprise to people. Too many people not teaching manners has caused too many adults to be surprised by good manners in a child. These manners my children have learned were just a way of life for me growing up. The world has just changed so much since we were kids. I think parents may be just too liberal these days.

I so totally agree with you. No one has manners anymore. I teach my child manners. She is 2 1/2 and she almost always uses her manners...please...thank you or excuse me. and when she dont I get on her and tell her that she is being rude and ask her what are you supposed to say and she will respond with the right answer cause she knows that she did wrong. Adults need to have manners before their kids will ever have them. I hope other parents that read these answers will learn to use manners themselfs and teach it to their own kids.

I have gotten in 3 arguments at a grocery store on 3 different occasions because of rude people. Sometimes I think people are just too self absorbed. And nobody says excuse me, even when they bump my cart. What can you do though? I just keep my frustration to myself now- telling people off just caused arguments for me and it's not worth it

LMAO! You and me both. Do you know, sometimes when I correct my daughter's behavior in public (cover your mouth, I didn't hear please, put that back where you got it, etc) I actually get LOOKS from people who don't like what I'm saying. She's got more manners than most adults I know also.
The times they are a'changin'...and it SUCKS.
Kudos to you for raising a well mannered kid. Yours and mine can grow up and start a revolution. :)

I know, it's terrible.... when I DO see a kid with manners, I'm the one that's rude because I sit there in shock with my mouth open.

I guess it just depends. one of the first words out of my sons mouth was please. he knew if he didn't ask nicely he wouldn't get what he wanted so he says please, thank you, welcome all at once to get what he wants. he's only 22 months old so he doesn't know you are supposed to say please then thank you, and i say your welcome. its cute.
