i noticed that some of my cooking pans have deteriorated and the surface begins to flake off, i am afraid that the material being leach out can cause health issues. anyone know what harm can this do to a person?

I have some formal education cooking and a lot of practical experience.
I only use pyrex and stainless steel, & cast iron to cook in.
Teflon is now known to cause cancer. The people who make it are defending themselves but that does not make it safe. I never have trusted any of those non stick surfaces.
Aluminum can pit and get powdery and is a known link to Althimers (a neighbour growing up ) was one of the first cases of the disease and he built planes.(they are made from Al)
I avoid foil too.
Is this pan a little dull, lightweight and getting little tiny holes in the inside that get powdery white???? if so It most likely is Aluminum
Toss it.
