Regardless of what's causing the vomiting and diarrhea, your main worry here should be dehydration. Dehydration is most commonly caused by a viral infection, and there is no cure for a virus other than to wait it out. Get some pedialyte, and give water frequently! See a doctor, and in the meantime, try to stick with starchy foods, and 2 tablespoons or so of water at a time. If the child throws up on 2 tablespoons of water, reduce the amount a little at a time until it's tolerated. Throwing up and diarrhea will cause the dehydration to get worse, and severe dehydration can actually be fatal! Please bring that baby to the doctor! Good luck :)

I actually just went through this last week with our 20 month old. He went from throwing up all day last Monday to a fever and diarrhea the rest of the week.I had him at the Dr. to be sure he wasn't dehydrated wed. they said its a flu going around. The Dr. told me that there are many strains going around right now. As it turns out I had him in the ER Thurs. morning and he was dehydrated. So be careful and try to get fluids in them.Funny thing was my 4 yr woke up Thurs, puked 3 times and was fine. My husband and I never got sick either. The ER Dr. said it all depends on the person, the same virus could effect everyone differently. Good thing is he is fine now, 6 days later. Oh and A little hint, if you can't get them to drink pedi lite, try Gatorade, the Dr. suggested it to me and my son loved it! Good Luck. Oh and try web MD to they had a lot of hints for kids With the flu.

HE could have the stomach flu. He can also have something seriuosly wrong with him or her. If he doesn't eat or drink then he or she is dehydrated and needs to be seen, but the two yr old stills needs to be seen since he or she has been throwing up for 5 days.

Could be a virus, but if I were you, I wouldn't wait another day, 5 days is a long time, the 2 yr old could dehydrate. TAKE THE CHILD TO THE DOCTOR!!!!!!!!!!!

A virus...they can last up to seven to ten days. If it keeps up get your child checked for the rota virus...mine had that and wound up in the hospital as she would not drink enough. The most important thing to do is keep the child hydrated.

A stomach virus, food poisioning. Lactose intolerance.
Why not take the poor child to the doctor rather than run the risk of CPS being called due to your neglect?

Most definitely. One of the biggest dangers of flu in the very young is dehydration. Monitor your child very closely and make sure he gets enough fluids, preferably electrolytes.
