There are going to be 30 people at my beach wedding. I want people to be standing in a circle around us but I want it to be an organized circle. I have thought about using petals or flowers as markers for the outline of the circle but I am not sure how to figure out how big of a circle to mark out. I do not wan to walk out and have my circle look like a football huddle.

Go buy those poles from the local hardware shop - the ones you can fill with oil and have the flame burning - you know the ones....

Please them in the sand and drape ribbon from one to the other. You can get a good circle by puting a stick in the middle and using a piece of string tied on one end to the stick and just move the other end around and the circle should be perfect. Put as many poles in as you think would be necessary. If it's OK to have the flames burning use some essential oils to frangrant your circle of love..... Lots of ribbons from one pole to the other and dnagling around the poles and you have the perfect setting. Have fun!

I like the flower petals idea, but chances are they'll get kicked around and your circle will end up wonky, or nonexistant.

Try small floral balloon weights (example: http://www.sillyjokes.co.uk/party/balloons/acc/birthday-foil-weight.html). You'll often see the type of thing in the centre of party tables, attached to the string of balloons. Pretty much any florist will be able to make floral balloon weights for you, so if you get a dozen or so (and don't bother attaching balloons) you'll be able to mark your circle without impeding on the guests. And since they're weighted, they won't move as easily. The guests will probably be more inclined to fix the circle if they accidentally kick one, too.

Failing that, there are other things you can try - you can have long, loose arrangements of ribbon/foil/flowers that you can attach to the floor in such a way that they look like they've just been artistically placed there, but that won't get kicked around.

If you'd rather have nothing visible, put some clear double-sided tape in a dotted/dashed line around the perimeter of your circle and inform your guests that it's there. Their feet will stick to it if they go inside the circle (if you put the tape pieces close enough together) so they'll feel it, but it won't be visible in any photos.

To create your circle, get some rope or string and have someone hold the end in the spot where you want the circle centre. Then hold the other end of the string and walk around them in a circle with the string held tight. Perfect circle every time =)

i like that idea!! i think if you arrange the alter (if you have one, if not....well ignoer this part) in such a way, then mark out what looks to be a good distance to one side, then draw it all the way around in the sand, then if it still looks big enough to you, mark it with petals, leis, or prett coloured seashells. be sure to leave a psace in the circle somewhere (usually at the east part, east= sunrise=new beginning each day) for you to walk into. i'd leave about 5 feet in this area. so you'd have to remark your circle to include that area, but i think it should work well. congrats!!

Hmm, I would give each person about four feet of space. So, that would make your circle about 120 feet in diameter. I would mark the circle with fist-sized stones, that way your circle wont get blown away by the sea breeze.

Good luck!

I had the same thing with 12 people and I didn't assign anyone anywhere (someone was bound to be unhappy).

At the time of the ceremony I just asked everyone to please form a circle and I let them all decide their own place.

Set up a ribbon with flowers attached to indicate the area but just let everyone fill in as they are comfortable.

Please consider providing seating for any elderly or infirmed guests, or, if you happen to arrive late. :-)
