You are completely misreading Sam Harris’ arguments. What he is stating is that questions of the non-corporeal (ghosts) and paranormal experiences, though highly improbable, can be assessed as to their truth or falsehood, using standards of scientific inquiry. He is not, in anyway stating emphatically, as if it were a dogmatic proposition, that ghosts do exist and that the paranormal phenomenon are legitimate experiences. His comments on ghosts and the paranormal are employed to show the truth discerning powers of reason and logic, and how our rational faculties, used to disprove the paranormal, can also be levied against religious beliefs.
Atheists, and many within both the academic and nonacademic community hold Sam Harris’ “End of Faith” and “Letter to a Christian Nation” in such high regard because he has probably articulated the connection between religious belief, both moderate and fundamentalist, to their deleterious effects on society more lucidly than any other modern scholar. His high esteem among those who read his book is not that he has stated anything new, as much as he has stated something that has already been stated countless times in a more accessible way.

No two atheists have the same beliefs on all things. This is because it comes from within and life experiences versus a book and set of rules from someone else.
Sam Harris knows what he's talking about. His ideas are firm and well thought out.

I found Sam Harris' book the End of Faith to be well thought out and may of his arguments persuasive. Do I agree with all his conclusions? no. Will I read his next book? absolutely.
Dawkins thought enought of him to quote him in the God Delusion.
I agree with the above answerer. I would praise Dawkins

Many people believe in the paranormal. This does not make them, or their beliefs, simple-minded. Just not scientific. When it comes down to it, very few true beliefs are based on scientific fact. If they were, then people would have no need to believe in them.

You do NOT want to start a contest naming dumb Xians vs. Dumb atheists. There's so much more ammunition against the Xians in this. Pat Robertson. Ted Haggard. Dr. Dino. George Dubya Bush...those are just the first four that come to mind.

How is logic and reason simple minded? At least we can think for ourselves and not let a book or a preacher do the thinking for us.
