As a Christian, I have encountered very few true atheists. Most people who claim to be atheist, eventually retreat to agnosticism during deep conversations. Eventually they admit that it is possible that God could exist, therefore agnosticism for them is more accurately defining.
I truly believe that at the core of most non-Christians (or other religious affiliations) is a person who believes in the possibility of God. In a crisis where their life is on the line, they may call upon a God they don't know in hopes that it just might be true.
And I truly believe that if Jesus of Nazareth never appeared at that time, but appeared in our day, was killed in some other fashion and raised from the dead, documented by modern technology, that most people would still either write it off as some grand hoax, or reject it for some other reason. Even if it makes perfect sense, most people will still reject it so they can live their life, their own way.

A lot of them assume everyone who isn't Christian is Atheist as though anything non Christian is Atheist anyhow. Some are not that uneducated.

Not sure why it is that you assume that so many Christians think in such narrow terms.
Remember that the ultra fundamentalists are just the loudest, not necessarily the majority.

I don't. I assume, if one is intelligent, they may not be Christian but they would believe in some form of godliness.

It all started millions and millions of years ago. The psyche of the Christian started to evolve and after hundreds of randomly selected mutations we came to the conclusion that GOD wanted to communicate with his creation so he sent the heathen to strengthen our faith in Jesus Christ. Now if you want a serious answer then it is simple. Jesus = GOD . Atheist = No GOD no Jesus = No GOD = Atheist.

Many christians assume that if you're not with them you must be against them. Much like their alleged god's attitude.

No, that is not true. But what comes to eternity, all other choices lead to the place Christians do not want to go...hell.

We don't assume that they are athiest... If you do not believe in one God and in his son Jesus you will go to hell, because believing that Jesus came to this earth, died for our sins and rose again 3 days later is the ONLY way to get to heaven.

Huh? I've never made such an assumption, and neither (as far as I know) has any other Christian I've ever known.

You shouldn't think that all Christians feel this way...apparently at some point in your life you ran across a few legalistic bozos. So please don't assume that all Christians feel this way.
