No, it may not be "just an assumption" to them. Everyone should be allowed to chose their religion or no religion. I don't see that anyone else's beliefs subtract or threaten my beliefs. C'est la vie! I am not an atheist. I'm a Christian, but I recognize the validity of other religious or non-religious viewpoints. As each of our personalities are different, so too, are the choices we make based on our upbringing and experiences. You can't denigrate another's belief system. For whatever reason, it is important to them and carries meaning, or lack thereof. I just think atheists are confused. They see all the various religious ideologies and it can stagger one's common sense when you really sit down and listen to all the various doctrines. I just learned how the Book of Mormon came to be, and I think it's a grand manipulation by an enterprising soul who wanted his name to go down in history for eternity. I am also against any "holy wars" in the name of God to hide the fact people are being murdered because of someone's religion. I still believe in God, but I truly question man's interpretation of the holy scriptures. I feel there has been much tampering. So I can understand where the atheist is coming from. And it is entirely possible to live a good and honest life without believing in a god, providing one has a high set of personal standards and lives their life by respecting and treating others as he or she would wish to be treated. I'd worry less about beliefs and more about the actions by people because of those beliefs, where man, time and again, distorts the truth, for his own gain!

Why don't believers confess their belief is just an assumption? What makes your God real, and others fake? What evidence do you have to prove any God does exist? There doesn't really need to be evidence to prove that God doesn't exist, however to prove God does exist would require some form of evidence..

Why don't theists confess their belief is just an assumption? I think the assumption that there is no god is a reasonable one

Because it's not an assumption, it's a conclusion. Since the claim that God exists has not been proven, it is CORRECT to conclude that the claim is false. If you want us to conclude otherwise, produce some evidence and we will reach a new conclusion, which would also be correct.

It is. The same as your disbelief in Odin is.

The total lack of any evidence whatsoever makes it a very safe assumption. There is a very very slight chance there is a god, but so slight the odds are prohibitively low.

There is nothing to confess. The non-belief of god is a belief that is a continuously growing conviction.

You're right, they can't prove that God doesn't exist and believers can't prove that he does. They need to relax and stop focusing on discrediting religion...they will never change the mind of the majority.

and it seems like calling God a "tooth fairy" is the only thing they can ever come up with to defend their beliefs.

Yeah, worshiping a spaghetti monster and saying Ramen! all the time makes much more sense.

There is more evidence to suggest there is NO God as opposed to the evidence in favour of God. We aren't assuming, we are making an informed decision based on the evidence we have at hand... theists, on the other hand, are going against the evidence & closing their minds off to the rational explanations in favour of their ignorant beliefs.

It isn't. It's the best account they can give of the evidence.

I happen to construe the evidence somewhat differently, but I *will* say that the atheists here are a hell of a lot more fun than the believers, by and large.

Well, it's not an assumption to ME and I'm an atheist.
