please can someone give me a detailed list of different camera lenses for the canon 400d and what they do!

Canon has hundreds of lenses from the last few decades.
Start at their website and research the different ones.
There are primes, (one focal length) wide angle, normal, and telephoto, same with zooms. There are macro and other specialized lenses.
Then there are the third party manufacturers, Sigma, Tamron, and Tokina are three companies who make lenses.

Yes. As per previous answers, there are a lot of lenses available. Check out the auction sites, Amateur Photographer classifieds, local shops. Basically, If it is CANON AUTO FOCUS FIT, it will be compatible. But, also contact Canon. For as they used to advertise, 'if anyone can, Canon can.'
