Ok, so... I want to get a parakeet but (a) don't have very many brilliant name ideas and (b) am not sure where to get a parakeet. I live in Cypress, TX (close to Houston) and am not sure if Petsmart parakeets are the healthiest. Any ideas on bird stores that sell healthy parakeets? Thanks for your help!

Hi there. Houston is a really big place. You can try Flying Colors Aviary at 713-446-2462 or CZ Bird Cage at 281-693-6065. These may be able to locate a good parakeet breeder close to you. Buy a good pellet food like Zupreem, Harrisons, or Roudybush. 10% seeds, 10-20% fruits and veggies.Avoid chocolate and avocado because these have been found to be toxic to birds. It is helpful to get the hand tamed bird and remember to act like his/her new food is delicious and eat it or pretend. Since you are the flock leader, this will perk the birds interest in new foods.Scientists have found that parakeets which are parrots are more intelligent than once thought. There are good pet stores and bad. Where I live in El Paso, Tx, some breeders have their own pet shops. Look at the overall look and activity level of the bird. Be sure the cloaca is free from poop sticking on it, bright eyes are good. Look at its environment. With your good judgment, I know you will find what you need. Names will come to you once you and your feathered friend become companions. To tell you the truth, I couldn't name my own children until they were born and have found their names fit very well. Good luck, take your time and you might find a bird that chooses you. Have a tweet year

I have two parakeets, both urchased at petsmart. We looked quite hard to find a place that sold hand-raised budgies, hwever they are a bit hard to come by. Getting a parakeet from petsmart and similar stores is fine, but they take more training, and you have to wait until they get used to their new surroundings before you can begin training them. My two parakeets are just fine, but if you can find somewhere that sells budgies nearby that hand-raises them, definately get them there. I wouldn't go over an hour to get a hand-raised budgie, but it is worth it if you do go a long distance to get one.

If you do end up getting one at Petsmart, make sure to purcase a book about budgies as well, and read up online about training, as they will need some!

As for names, my parakeets are called Kiwi and Fruitcake. The names just sort of came to me as soon as we purchased them, and I'm pretty sure a name will come to you, too. Look at the bird, and think of a creative name for it. Does it love baths? Howabout "bubbles", (kind of like bubble baths). Is it always fluffing it's feathers and showing off? Name it the name of your favorite model or actress. A name should come to you before too long after purchasing your budgie.

Have fun with your new bird!

They pull their feathers out while they are under pressure. i think of it somewhat is the Mate demise mixed with you being away.different issues: be sure the toys do not take in lots area that he won't be able to stretch, and all birds might desire to get out of the cage on a daily basis of two for a little while to exercising. A poultry having no vegetables in there nutrition plan is style of a teenager residing off cereal which additionally might result temper i might think of, if he extremely won't consume something clean you may desire to purchase supplements to put in his water, however the water has to get replaced on a daily basis. be sure he's getting solar interior the day & darkish at evening. you need to examine up on the thank you to introduce a clean mate, that would not constantly artwork in spite of the undeniable fact that it ought to be the suited answer.
