I believe because the sun never set on Union Jack. Great Britons power and reached had extended around the globe. The fact that most Colonialists were x-patriots also played a large role in it as well. The French who were non too fond of te English were paying particular attention. They knew all too well that King George would not sit quietly by without sending British troops to tech those rebelious colonists a harsh lesson. Spain I believe was later engaged din the war as well.
