I've had my credit run for each appt complex I've rented, but I think they're just looking for read flags from the past that would make them think twice about renting to you. There's a difference in bad credit and 18yr old no credit. The fact is your ability to pay rent by showing viable income to support it is what's key to getting in. If it turns out to be a barrier, all you'll need is a cosigner.

Get a job. Without an income, a perfect credit score is useless. If you have a steady job and savings equal to a few months rent, a credit score is not necessary.

Yes Honey! And it better be in good standing. If I were mentoring you , the first rule of thumb I would give is to NOT JACK UP YOUR CREDIT!Believe me getting an apartment is not the only life decision dependant on good credit.

As far as saving, I would save up 1500.00 that way you will have your first months rent and your security deposit which is usually the same amt. as the first months rent. What I would also do is when you see things on clearance at store that you will need for your apartment, buy them little by little, for ex. dishes, towels, etc.
Good Luck
