Walls generally take thinner tiles. Floors will have to carry the load of people walking over it so they are approx. 3 times thicker. I've installed floor on my shower wall against a screwed down metal / plastic covered lathing to insure the heavy tile and quick set mortar would adhere solidly and not come tumbling down after setting a few rows.

Wall tiles depending on the design are smaller sizes and usually there is some decorative tile put up with it to ensure that it looks finished properly. On the wall you can use either shiny tile or matte tiles as the slippery aspect doesnt matter. What might matter though is the fact that shiny tile is easier to clean and maintain. There is also a material that you can put up instead of tile which is called cultured marble panels. It is a man made material that comes in big sheets, lasts about 40 years without wear, lots of colour, easy to clean and very durable. You can squeegee it dry.

Floor tile can be anything matte or slate or limestone or honed marble. The only suggestion that I have is that you use bigger tile such as 12 x 12 so that you have less grout than normal for easier maintanence. If your bathroom is bigger than 8x6 or in that range you may want to lay your tile on an angle instead of straight for effect.

yes...you dont want a slippery floor tile, wall tiles can be any texture really ...slippery too...you want a floor tile that your not gonna slip over and risk breaking your neck on...they can still have a shiny appearance and have a grippy texture too...good luck.
