I worked in a daycare potty training 18 to 2 1/2 yr olds. I used sticker charts when they went potty. (we could not use candy)

They put their own stickers on it. And if they had a really good day (2 or less accidents) I wrote letters to mommy and daddy and they gave the letters to them.

The sticker charts worked good for me.

I think he should be able to do crafts no matter what, that is learning.

Maybe you should ask him something he likes to do or eat or something and come up with a reward for pottying together.

I always give him something he always wants and can never have. So I give him a pop or chips. For things like toys for a reward he has to do a good job during the week and gets it on the weekend.

I did that with my son; he loved Matchbox and similar cars, so when he managed to go to the bathroom "in time" he got a car. I think toys are better than something like candy - they serve as a permanant reminder that your child did something right, so they continue to be positive reinforcement long after a piece of candy would be history.

We use a sticker chart as well. Star for a poo and heart for a wee. She gets to put the stickers on

Actually Dr Phil recommended making a game of it for boys (hitting cheerios in the commode) and doll training for girls (get a doll with training seat) and she teaches the doll to do it.
Reward / bribing doesn't always work.

Verbal praise, this is a "proud of you" moment. Use material rewards carefully. Teach, not bribe.

2 chocolated chips for pee
6 chocolate chips and a lolly pop for poo (cause it's special)
1 sticker for washing his hands.
