Counterfeit Christianity is probably the best description I can give for a cult. Counterfeit Christianity is an imitation of real Christianity. Bible terms like "Jesus Christ, Resurrection, Salvation, and Atonement" are used by the Cult, but the various cult groups have assigned entirely different meanings to these terms.
Like counterfeit money which is sometimes difficult to detect, so it is difficult to detect counterfeit Christianity, since it looks like the real thing. Experts examining counterfeit money often hold it up to a strong light and look for identifying marks. Counterfeit Christianity also has identifying marks, which can be seen when, held up to an even stronger light, the light of God's word, the bible.
We are at an advantage if we know what to expect from a cult. Cultists are very well trained to appear "Christian", and indeed believe they are the true churches, and you need the deliverance! Therefore, be bold and ask the question, "do you believe the group you represent is the only true church on the face of the earth?"
If they reply that they are, or if they are evasive, making remarks like "Well, every church has a measure of truth but...", you have made an early detection of a Cultist.
Every true Christian, if asked the same question, regardless of his denomination, would reply that the true church is comprised of believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, and HE (not some organization) is THE WAY, THE TRUTH, AND THE LIFE, (John 14:6). No legitimate denomination would claim that they alone and their members have salvation exclusively, but the cults (the counterfeits) do.

Well, first of all I have a problem with their theology. The more I study up on it, with my husband, the more the Spirit tells me to stay away from it.

I have lived in Utah for 41/2 years and come to know many mormons. The problem that I have with them is that even though they claim not to judge others - they do- and a lot of it. In my opinion I feel that they think ALL christians are bad and have little morals.I think that they often forget that there are many Christians who do have very high morals, such as not smoking, drinking, premarital sex, gambling, etc. They also think that all Christians don't attend church every Sunday, and this is true to a point, I have family who are twice a year christians. But mormons also have members that don't attend church every Sunday they are called "jack mormons" ( a term I learned in Utah). In my opinion they tend to make themselves out to be perfect (holier than thou), but I know that they are not, they are like the rest of us, they too have family problems, wether it be gamling, adultery, smoking, but they tend to hide it - its all kept behind doors and not to be spoken about. Mormons are just like Christians - Sinners who need a Savior.

This is all said in love
Linda

As a group they're growing out of it, as the religion matures, and as they start losing people who grew up within the church (I've never known any large mormon families where most of the kids weren't really, REALLY messed up), but there is still a lot of the air of the whacko cult about them.

My main problem with them is they have no ******* taste, and they expect everyone else to not have any, either. They are intolerant of anything they feel isn't NICE enough.

And when I was in the military, I had to put up with this crap. The Defense Language Institute is chock full of mormons, and they tend to get their way, because a lot of Intel and other AETC officers are mormons. Everything that is wrong with mormonism gets amplified there, especially among the converts (and a lot of people convert there, especially if they have mormon girlfriends), to the point that IT CAN ACTUALLY MAKE LIFELONG MORMONS HATE MORMONS.

Edit: Also the Mormon temple looks like a soviet apartment block with gothic embellishments. No taste.

But like I said...it's getting to where people who grow up in it are easily disillusioned, kind of like Catholicicism. It will get a lot more moderate in the next few decades.

There is nothing wrong with a person that is a Mormon, if there was, then one would have to ask, what is wrong with the Baptist, Church of Christ, Catholics, etc.,

It's what they teach, that is wrong, for instance

"False Religion...SPREADS FALSE DOCTRINE: Most religions teach that the soul or spirit is some invisible part of a human that survives the death of the physical body. However, the Bible teaches a different doctrine. “The soul that is sinning, it itself will die.” Ezekiel 18:4 Jesus taught that the dead will be resurrected, an unnecessary action if humans had an immortal soul." Does your religion teach that the soul does not die?

False Religion...TOLERATES IMMORAL SEX: Church groups ordain gay and lesbian members of the clergy. What, though, does the Bible teach? It plainly states: “Do YOU not know that unrighteous persons will not inherit God’s kingdom? Do not be misled. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men kept for unnatural purposes, nor men who lie with men.” 1 Cor. 6:9,10 Do you know of religions that condone immoral sex?

Honey, I don't think there's ANYTHING wrong with Mormons! I am associated with Jehovah's Witnesses, and had a visit from two young Mormons on their 'mission'. We began to talk about the Bible at the door, and before you know it, they were on the deck with me, drinking lemonade. They began to come by a couple of times a week, and we'd spend hours discussing the Bible. They never turned me into a Mormon, and I never made them Jehovah's Witnesses, but we had some fine, spirited talks about Bible topics, and they became my friends. I miss them dearly, and think of them often.
Nothing is wrong with Mormons as a whole... just as there is nothing wrong with Baptists as a whole, or Buddhists as a whole. The name calling comes from ignorant, untaught, small-minded individuals who can't see past the end of their own noses. Diversity is what life is made of! Or it should be, anyhow...

Wow, where do I start?

They have their Fellow Mormon's FOLLOWED AT BYU, looking to kick them out if they attend a party or find out if their gay.

They don't allow women in certain areas of Temple, they place women in a secondary position in the family and church.

They didn't allow Caffeine until they "bought" a large interest in the Coca-Cola company, then all of a sudden, caffeine became "okay" to ingest after decades of "not being allowed." I guess the body is a Temple only as long as the Congregation isn't making money off of it.

They wrote their own Bible. (What about not adding to or taking away "one tittle" to the Bible?). Now a tittle is just an ACCENT over a letter, not to mention whole BOOKS!

They invented new layers and conditions in Heaven that aren't IN THE BIBLE.

About the ONLY thing they do according to scripture is preach door to door.

That's it.

The Mormons are a sect of Christianity. they follow the teachings of Joseph Smith, who wrote a book of revelation that he believed he received from Jesus.

The problem that main stream Christians have with that is that when the bible in its entirety was written, it contained the statement to the effect that no word shall be added or taken away from this writing.... which of course translates to - don't add anything to this, it's all here

Joe added his own book, which in turn grew into a huge following - the Mormons - who essentially follow his book.

I have massive respect for mormons.

I just wish they wouldn't show up at my door at 7 AM on a Saturday to subtly imply that I'm ignorant about life, to which they obviously hold ALL the answers.

My only criticism would be that they think that black people are demons and that them being white are angels. Also that some groups of Mormons groom young girls of 13+ to become wifes against their will.

I'm not sure they still think like this but I read this somewhere recently. But people are free to believe what they want to believe.
