And how can those activities be encouraged?

I would appreciate it if people would read the question before answering.

I can think of one example: sleeping. It is a normal activity and it displaces activities that increase global warming, therefore it reduces global warming. It is not a good example though since it doesn't actively combat global warming.

The best solutions Ive promoted are reducing driving, increasing fuel efficiency and renewable energy - (Get those big trucks and SUVS off the roads!) and to support FORESTS and planting trees to make more FORESTS since they help to cool the Earth and reduce greenhouse gases.

Use less energy (efficient lighting, air conditioning and heating, water heaters, insulate your home). Use "green" energy (wind or solar where applicable). Buy a more efficient car (hybrid or diesel). Drive less. Recycle more. Consume less. Waste less (such as using the tote bags to the grocery instead of plastic).

Off hand that is all I can think of.
