Your question is ... Of course something will happen with the building of the Third Temple! Either -- there will have already been a socio-political sea change to allow the building Or -- if there were no such change preceding it, then the building would cause a tremendous reaction from the rest of the Middle East - and probably the rest of the world. ========== @Torgo and Chaz - there are positions that the Dome of the Rock was built by Umar as a sort of nod to the temple theoreticaly, it could be incorporated rather than destroyed. Either way -- as I said - a sea change in socio-political opinion.

I see your point-but no, the Anti-Christ will enter the temple halfway through the tribulation period. 3 1/2 years later Jesus will return. The temple here is the Temple of God that will be built by the Jews and not some Christian church or some pseudo-Christian church.

I think the passage in II Thessalonians 2:3,4 is pretty definitive. "Let no one deceive you in any way, for (the Day of the Lord) will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god, or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as God."
That this is clearly talking about a literal person, being plainly in my mind the same one revealed in Chapter 13 of Revelation as the Antichrist, or the Beast as he is there called; I don't see how to get around interpreting this word "temple" in any less than a very literal sense. This is further substantiated by Revelation, Chapter 11:1-13 and Matthew 24:15ff, which is understood by all Bible commentators that I as referring to the desecration of the 2nd Temple by Antiochus Epiphanes.

NEW HEAVENLY JERUSALEM IS THRONE AND EARTH IS FOOTSTOOL
Heb.9:27 [ It is appointed unto man once to die, after this the judgement ];
2Cor.5:10; Acts 17:31; 24:15; John 5:22,26-29; Dan.12:2; Isa.26:19;
ALL WILL BE MADE AS NEW AND PERFECT AS BEFORE EDEN.
Isa.65:17; For behold I create New Heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.
Isa.66:1; This saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool:
where is the house ye build for me? and where is the place of my rest. 22 For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, So shall your seed and your name remain.
Matt.19:28 [ Eze.38:12-14 THE 12 TRIBES WILL BE ON THEIR OWN LAND];
Gal.4:26 But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.
2Pet.3:13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
Rev.3:12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.14 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;
Rev.21:1 And I saw a new heavens and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. 2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband, 3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. 5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold I make all things new.

I like the Bad Crab's answer. When we were in Israel, though, we saw stuff this Jewish group is making to put in the temple if/when it's rebuilt -- a giant gold menorah, priestly robes, lots and lots of stuff. Of course the Dome of the Rock is there now -- although someone suggested they could build the Temple in the parking lot of the Dome of the Rock -- I have no idea if this is true.

People are making plans to rebuild the temple. They have a lot of the furniture built. It is only a matter of time. And no, the pope is just a man.

Yes.. Rebuilding the temple will probably cause a war between Islam and the Jews, but it will happen and the Jews are already planning on it.

No pope has never claimed to be God, or equal to God.
Anyone who believes as much will be ripe for deception, when the real anti-christ is finally revealed.
