Microsoft and windows are both one company.
Microsoft is the company name but windows is the name of the operating system and GUI (Graphical User Interface).
Microsoft was made first, these where the days that computers simply had text on them and no pictures. Then came windows (a microsoft product) which allows people to use computers how they do today (with programs running in windows and with multi-tasking possible).
