Was this because of the muslim name? Does that not seem rather disgusting and racist?

Thanks for the answers. So I guess they may have been booing him because of his team or yelling "Moose". I hope that is the answer. I hope they weren't booing him because of his name.

1) They're cheering "MOOOOOSE!" It's even in the name of his website, moose87.com . Just one of those odd hometown sports rituals. It is entirely possible that some people thought it was a boo, and joined in. I would hope, though, that a Super Bowl crowd would have a little more class.

2) Yes, it would be disgusting and racist. Especially so this year, considering how much the media have focused on the ethnic backgrounds of the coaches. Which is exactly why I don't think that anybody would have the guts to boo him. Your average Super Bowl ticket is about $1,000, and half of those are paid by businesses. Can you imagine the backlash if some guy were sitting in a $1,000 seat, paid for by his employer, and was seen (or even better, caught on tape) booing a black man he doesn't even know? By 9:00 Monday morning, he'd be on permanent vacation.

3) Muhsin Muhammad isn't even Muslim*. His father converted to Islam when Muhsin (born Melvin Campbell) was only 4 years old; his father changed both of their names to Muhsin. Muhsin (Arabic for "generous") is a Christian; appropriately enough, he is quite charitable, both through his own organization, the M2 Foundation, and the NFL's United Way connections. So those who _would_ blindly boo him are idiots on multiple levels.

* This isn't to correct you, so much as (if they do exist) those who would boo him for having a Muslim name.

[Side note to Steph: I think that part of the reason people are so quick to call 'racism' is because Muhammad was the only one who got booed. If it were just for being a Bear, why wouldn't the Colts fans boo Brian Urlacher, poster boy for the Bears' defense?]

They were shouting out "Muuuuuuusss", not booing. Note that in Peyton's commercial he spoofs that fan activity when the movers drop and bust the object they're moving and he says "They're not yelling 'boo', they're saying 'mmmooooovers'".

His first name is Muhsin (pronounced 'Moo-sin'). His nickname is 'Moose'. The fans were shouting 'Moooooooooooose'.

No idea. I was wondering that myself. At first, I thought I heard wrong. My sister thinks it was just the Colt's fans (since he's on the Bears team).
