Yes, and I have not gotten sick.

On the contrary, if you eat out, you can't check whether the food they serve you is expired, so some people have gotten food poisoning at restaurants.

It depends on what the food is. I certainly wouldn't eat meat if it was past the best by date. But a tin of beans would be OK. It really depends on how long the food lasts. When you buy a tin of beans, its best by date will be about 3 years in the future. So it's not going to become suddenly inedible on the date given. But meat will only last about 5 days, so a single day makes a huge difference.

The best before date is always set a wee while before the food is due to start spoiling as a 'better safe than sorry' measure. If it's only a few days after, there's nothing wrong at all.

Personally, I smell everything before I eat or cook it, no matter what the expiration date is. If it's past the expiration date, smells good, looks good, I usually prepare and eat it. Also, look any food over very well for the green fuzzy monster.

Why not there will be a safety time on such things. Trying using your senses, look at it for mould etc, smell it and touch it. We didn't always have the Nanny state!!! If you go and pick you own in a market or farm it doesn't come with a best before date does it?

I think most people do
It's only a guide
The food itself is OK for a short while after
I even pick the green bits off the cheese and eat the rest -
not supposed to do that as the spores are inside the cheese as well
Never made me sick

Just use good common sense. It is not going to hurt you but after a certain period of time flavor, texture, and color will start to be affected. That is why they put those dates on them.

If it looks OK...smells OK...tastes OK, then eat it. What did we do before..'best before' dates?
You are the best judge...'best before' is a guide from the manufacturers and it covers them if you are ill!

Never - I can't bring myself to eat it - purely in the mind, I know, but I feel like it is so close to being in the bin that it's as good as there already. Yuk!
