So fellows will have a place to put their thingy......OH! You mean crumpets as food, not the crumpets in the red-light district.

its caused by the air bubbles in the mixture that rise and burst at the surface when they are being cooked on the griddle.

it results in lovely little pockets to hold peanut butter and jam or better still, make crumpet pizza! Spread a little tom puree, chop some ham, slice a mushroom, top with grated cheddar and toast (not too near the heat element) til golden, melted and bubbly. Ooooh good for weekend brunch!

The amount of yeast in the mixture is more than required to raise them .... yeast when mixed with water and a little sugar creates a gas, and what you are seeing is the shaped gas bubbles. Peace & Love

They are specially made by the air bubbles in the mix when its made, so that people like you and i can fill them up with lots of butter and nice things. Hmmmmmm!!!! Lovely.

Slather on the butter and a good dollop of strawberry jam ... all soaks into the holes and YUMMY!!!!!!!!!!

for the melted cheese to go in! i thinks they're made by air bubbles in the dough they use - not sure how they are so big and uniform though!

You spread them with butter and it soaks in. Tastes delicious.
