Well, as a father of a three year old little girl and a son of an elementary teacher, some parents are allowing their daughters to apply make-up on their faces at an alarming age of 6 to 8 years old. I think this is irresponsible and allows for distractions in little girls. If young ladies in high school can sometimes do nothing other than worry about how much make-up is on their faces, imagine an 8 year old. It also raises questions for the parents and their judgement between proper and improper. I myself and my wife have agreed not to allow our daughter to wear make-up until she is at least 15 years of age or in the last two years of high school. Education should always be the prime objective in our childrens lives even when they become parents themselves.

Well this is a very personal decision that you have to feel comfortable with and not pressured by anyone. In my opinion, lip gloss is OK at maybe 11 or 12, eyeliner or eyeshadow at 13 or 14. Those things cannot really damage the skin, but things such as foundation and mascara, try to get your daughter to wait as long as possible. You don't want her to ruin her eyelashes and skin at such an early age.
If she is expressing an interest in beauty, maybe the best thing to do is to teach her how to take care of herself. Get her started on an age-appropriate face wash, sunscreen, and moisturizer, and make sure she understand the importance of doing these things every day.
Also, teach her to make at home face masks with fruit or to condition her hair using oil. This will also be a great bonding experience for the two of you!
Good luck!

My parents were very strict and only allowed me to wear lip gloss and light eye shadow at age 12. However, I wasn't allowed to wear mascara until age 18. I on the other hand feel a girl should be allowed to enhance her natural beauty at age 16.

I never had any boundaries with makeup (neither me or my younger sisters). We were never around other girls who really pressured us, so we just deiced on our own. I think I started at about age 10? for x-mas and birthday gifts, I'd get makeup sets, so I'd use it. Now that I have a daughter of my own (only 3 weeks, but never too early), I think about age 12 is good. Not too much, but most girls I know...even my 2 1/2 yr old step-daughter likes my sisters (her "aunts") to put makeup on her. There is but isn't any certain age for me. Just not so much that I'm going to want to wash it all off right away.

When the parent feels its time.
My cousin started wearing makeup at 11, way before she should have. Her maturity level wasn't right for the makeup she wore, but her mom thought it was cute to see a little girl who looked like she was a 19 year old... "corner girl".
I am 17, and barely wear makeup. Sometimes mascara, thats all. But my parents never put an age limit on wearing it.
It all goes with the girls maturity and behavior.

I think when they start junior high is a good time to start with a little blush, a little lipstick. The foundation, eyeliner, mascara and all that can be worked in a little later after she start to get the hang of make-up without looking like a clown.

I think 13 when they become teen-agers. That's when I was able to use make-up daily. I was already given make-up, but was allowed to wear it to school once I was in 8th grade. I think it is ok. Girls usually love make-up. I did. I wore everything but foundation, since my fam thought I had nice enough skin to go without. I wore eye shadow, eye liner, a little blush, mascara and light lipstick or gloss. I wasn't allowed to date until I was 16 though!

My daughter just turned 12 and we are experiencin the whole makeup thing.
She is allowed to wear lipgloss, *LIGHT* eyeshadow, and if she has a pimple she can concealer. She asked the other day to wear mascara, can you say, *YIKES!* I told her she can as long as she uses eye makeup remover every single night. So far so good LOL.
I think middle school as long as they are mature enough to let us show them how to properly apply and remove the makeup they put on.
Oh the joys of tweens LOL.
