Sounds a lot like the quads have trigger points in them.
Go to the source of most pain - muscles. The best book to explain fully what I mean is The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies. It not only tells what is going on but how to help yourself - I would think that you need someone that is already aware of this to get you progressing. I use a chiropractor who is a muscle specialist and uses an activator (instead of manipulation) along with a massage therapist.

Pulled ligament.torn cartilage, arthritis.or just that your muscle in your knee hasn't been worked enough and is tired and hurts from not using it enough.perhaps exercising your knee by sitting and lifting something like a large pillow, for a while.with the pillow being on your foot.If it is arthritis then completely leave off eating white flour products, sweets & red meat.you may have some hardened uric acid and calcium build up in your joint.if so .stop eating what I mentioned.take a good b vitamion complex to keep the t cells healthy so that they may better cleanse that joint. I wish you well.
