I do not believe in God, but I don't consider myself hostile toward Christians and there are other ways to peace and healing besides religion. Certain beliefs work for certain people, so others feel different from you when you didn't have a close friendship with the spirit of Jesus. People are probably unhappy and angry for reasons other than lack of religion. For me, not having faith in Jesus is all right. I get along fine in life.

1) I find it interesting and it gives me a chance to bounce my ideas off people who don't subscribe to them, hone my skills so to speak.
2) What is it like not to have a close personal relationship with the Invisible Pink Unicorn?
3) No, my life isn't awful and empty there are a lot of meaningfuill things to fill my days with.
4) You are only assuming that everyone who don't believe are unhappy and angry because you could never deal with reality. Just because you couldn't successfully do life without a religious crutch doesn't mean others cannot do it as well.

im new to this but i dont believe there should be any hostilities at all. but i do believe the reason you are looking for & i hope that others will agree with me on this is that -
A. this is a faceless way of contacting people & it is easy for any one to be hostile if you are not seeing the reaction of the person being hurt or offended!
B. religion is diverse among the people on the net there will be at any one time up to a million people on here & of them there are varrying degrees of religion from buddhism, christianity, muslim, & the jewish faithes if one wanted to you could even subscribe to the fact that athiests have their own religion of non belief. of them some (especially athiests) will seek to divide & offend fellow believers of all faiths.
C. there are at any given time numbers of people who just want to prank about & be down right mean. well i like you hve nothing but contempt for these people who just don`t care for others feelings.
& thus god gave us free will it is up to us to decide whats right or wrong but have pity on these people because come judgement day hell will have no fury for what god has in stall for these poor wretches.
to these sad people judge not lest ye be judged.
im with yer mat enjoy life.

I understand exactly what you are saying. Those who love God are much happier people and those who don't spend their time feeling unhappy and angry. Those who are close to God know their purpose in life, those who are not do not know their purpose and some feel there is none and commit suicide. A life without God is a very empty, meaningless, angry, sad and confusing one. Because atheists are jealous of Christians peace and happiness they try to make out like religion is wrong. It is like a bully picking on someone because they don't like that they are more successul or something.

What is it like not to have a close friendship with the Spirit of Jesus ?
- It's very freeing of the mind to not have a "friendship" with an imaginary person. Intellect is used on a day-to-day basis instead. We rely on logic and common sense instead of wishing... er "praying"... and ignorance.
You should try it.
I wasn't aware I may be unhappy and angry because I'm NOT friends with your non-existent buddy.
Oops... my bad. :-)

Is it just to exert cynicism and strike out at people who have found a way to peace and healing?
What peace? The religious are just as nasty as everyone else on here.

Theists, especially christians, try to control and restrict us based on their views. If all christians stop crusading against science, culture, art, sex and sexuality, religious freedom and such, and stop telling everybody else they're going to be tortured throughout eternity unless they join you, I assure you that you won't encounter nearly as much hostility.
