Yes you can, and it will look good. I am a handyman/small job remodeler by trade. You can use an epoxy or regular spray paint.
I just remodeled a bathroom on a budget for a customer. They had very nice porcelain tile with dark hunter green accent tiles. They wanted light grey.
First I taped off the tile to be painted. Then using a palm sander I scuffed the surface of all of the tiles to be painted. make sure to get the edges (That is by far the most important step)
Second making sure all surrounding areas are well masked and with good ventilation, take a can of rust-oleum clean metal primer (spray) and give a light coating (very light) do this for 2-3 coats re-coat when no longer tacky.( dries fast)
Third do your top coats in the same manor except your last coat which should be slightly heavier and more even takes about 45 min. a coat. I used rust-oleum american accents gloss.
Remove masking tape after about 30 min. so it does not glue to the paint.
Mask close to the tile, yes the inner grout will be painted but it looked much better this way in my case.
Also just f.y.i. this was a floor in a one bath four bed home. It has been four months and their is no damage. Still looks like new tile.
If you are doing a shower or tub surround use epoxy paint. You can get un-tinted epoxy at many places online and have it tinted as you would regular paint. Epoxy paint can be caustic, expensive, and difficult to work with, but it is a great product none the less...hope this helped out.

As an interior decorator, I'm surprised you're not familiar with this procedure.
1) Clean the tile thoroughly and degrease it with acetone.
2) Sand the tile to roughen the surfaces
3) Give the tile a final acetone wipe
4) Paint with a high quality EPOXY paint.
The paint should last several years before needing repainting.

Not the best idea, but if you go ahead with it, you must sand the glaze off the tiles so the paint will stick. I would advise against it.

I wouldn't advise it. Paint might hold up for awhile, but will soon start peeling.
