Although no tour event has ever utilized any hole above a par 5, There are several courses around the world that have Par 6's. I have even heard of a course that supposedly was built by Conrad Hilton that is over a mile long...(sometihing like a par 10 or so.) Never played it though.

The 644 yard18th at the Cherry Creek Golf Links in Riverhead, Long Island (NY) is a par 6. The course designer said that the perfect places for the tee box and green were just that far apart, so it was made into a 6 instead of a long 5. That makes sense, I mean 644 YARDS!! I went to the PGA at Baltusrol in '05 and that 647 yard 17th is CRAZY long. It took forever to walk the damn thing, let alone play it. I live on Long Island and I'm going to play the Cherry Creek couse one day. Guess I'll have to use the driver on 18.

The Wake Forest Country Club used to have a par 5 - some 700 yards long. Really it should be a par 6. You hit your tee shot from a hill into a valley, across the floor of the valley and up another damn hill. Oh yeah, there was a creek cutting across the bottom of the valley.
