Please only answer if you are an atheist. Bradley, your answer was very moving and beautifully written, but it's not what I was looking for.

I think it would be great. If god was real, and he really did love me that would be wonderful. If god was like jesus and all loving. (Not the god of the old testament thank you)

But I am certain no god exists. Certain. 100%. Absolutely sure.

I also wish Santa existed.

Everyone is born an atheist. You are indoctrinated into
believing in religion from family, friends and media.
Then people like me take a journey of questioning,
reasoning, being able to separate fact from fiction,
to come to an understanding of what's real and true.
Why would I care that a creator loves me?
What would that do for me?
You believe that God makes everything happens
for the best? That's not true weather you believe
in God or not.
Faith is believing in something without evidence.
So, my answer is no for the first and second question.
yes, for the last question.

I lost a dear friend two months ago. Yes, there were times when I wished that I had that sort of comfort in the night.

But what I really wish was that I had Tommy back.

Wishing isn't going to make it so. It's not for the best that he died, absolutely no way, so why make up stories just so I feel better?

Living my life with integrity and honesty is what makes me happy. The honest answer for me is that there is no 'creator' or omniscient being.

I love my parents planet and the sun that sustains me and gave me life.

When you talk about a creator I see an image of the Wizard of OZ.

SO which are you the Cowardly Lion, the Scarecrow? What do you need to believe in something else for? Whats missing?

You see I am happy to live my life I don't need to know what happens next or if anything happens at all i'm just far too busy loving my life and family.

Well technically speaking I am not an atheist but rather an agnostic... however I still dont believe in god so I think I can safely answer your question.

I never "wish" I believed in god, and I see no reason to believe there is any force that "makes everything happen for the best" because that just isnt logical. Not everything in this world happens for the best. Otherwise I would never have had to euthanise my perfectly healthy dog because he lost his mind when he was in the house for 2 days with my dead father who drank himself to death. If there was a god what possible reason could that occurence be classified as him "making everything turn out for the best"?

Now dont think for a second that I dont accept what happened but I can tell you it was not "for the best" that my father died and I had to kill my best friend. They died because obviously there is most likely not a god that makes everything turn out for the best.
It was Nature plain and simple... she gives, she takes away but nothing is ever really lost, I still have both my dog and my dad enshrined in my heart. I am happy and content in my life... the love that I have for this earth and all its creatures is all that I need to satisfy my existence. I dont need anyone to love me to be happy, that is not where happiness comes from... happiness comes from giving your love to others.. be it humans, dogs, trees, birds, plants, stars, clouds etc
I would not change what has happened in my life because life isnt about everything turning out for the best... life is about overcoming hardship and accepting that bad things happen for no real reason.... life is about giving your love away even though it may cause you pain. I am happy and so content without any belief in god/s you would not even comprehend it.

I believe in The Great Earth Mother and the Universe. I percieve these energies 2B feminine thus I refer 2 them as the Goddess. I am told by many that i'm an athiest and will burn in the fires of hell. Well that cant happen as I dont believe in anything Christian or any of the other false religions out there..

Everyone has a sense of their creator. Look into the sky, see the starts. There are trillions upon trillions of them. And there are more cells in the human body the the number of stars out there. Each cell, more complex then we can even imagine.

Look at nature, at beauty, at the complexity out there.

Look at the order of the universe. Gravity makes this planet, with others, go around the sun at a certain speed. Any closer or farther away, and we couldn't be alive.

This self evidence is why tribes are always worshiping. Find some random tribe in Africa and they will be worshiping SOMETHING. Every time.

Everyone has a sense of their creator. To be an atheist, you must try hard as you can to block out the sense. If they try to block him out, then they want to be atheists. They all enjoy it, and they will until they cease to be an atheist.

edit: Oh. I didn't know. I'm sorry.

Like you, I come from a long line of descendants who started out of Africa 4,000,000,000 years ago. Human evolution started out of Africa and so did God except he and his group emerged only around 2,500 years ago (according to pop culture evangelists and President Bush's gang of creationist experts).

I am not an atheist nor a brain damaged evangelical. Like my ancestors I use my mind and body and instincts to deal with threats or cooperate with trustworthy people. They make me happy God seems to be a punishing bastard at times I hear so why play it safe then get smashed by a God damned tornado sent out to punish Bush's people? Not me. I'm gonna be sacrificing tomatoes to the God of Spaghetti sauce and get happy that way.

I was disappointed when I realized there is no God. But I'm a little different from most church people; I've never been one to engage in a lot of wishful thinking. I believe in self-honesty and respect.

I'm an agnostic, a little different, but still, there are times that the thought of someone watching over me from above and ready to hear my prayer is comforting, but I don't feel like I could just convert to a religion just because of that.
