You REALLY CAN'T. Try catnip. Try a whole bunch of toys to work off energy. He's a kitten! Let him play - and - play WITH him. He'll wear you out...

Alexa, this is the perfect time to get good habits started.

Cradle the kitten like a baby as often as possible. Start playing around with the ears, tails, and nails as a regular sort of thing. Wear the cat like it is a hat... you know.. bond but also give the cat the indication that you are the superior being although perhaps not as cute as the kitten.

It will try to nibble and nip and scrap as if you were a sibling. So let it know vocally. A good old AHHHHHHHHHHHh will work after you handle the cat constantly.

Keep pinning the cat down to the floor unable to get back at you and keep cradling it like an infant. Do it constantly at such a young age. And have everyone in the house participate.

BUT, do not torment and get aggressive or allow anyone in the house to get too carried away. The cat will no longer respect everyone in the house if you are torturing it while holding it in less dominant position.

Do spend much time keeping its head gently "held" out of the way of biting, and the claws being held gently out of the way, and the baby cradle tactic and the OUUUUUCHHHHHHHH if it even thinks to nibble on you.

Really work the kitten now so that as it grows older, it respects you, it is bonded to you, and it responds better.

And 12-14 weeks is the perfect age for the humans to start in on their training of the kitty. Any younger than that should be the momma and sibling kitties.

Get your cat his/her own bed and make sure it knows it. Just be calm, gentle around it. Keep the kids and other animals away. If you just spend time with your cat alone, petting/playing wtih it, it will begin to trust you and form a strong enough bond to trust you anywhere in the house.

My kitten was really skittish at first, but every morning I'd spend at least an hour playing with it before I left for school so it would be sleeping while I was gone. Then I'd give a treat, play with it another hour, and when the cat became sleepy I'd place her in my lap and pet her. It's worked like a charm, she even likes taking rides in the car like a puppy dog.

Don't make sudden movements or loud noises. Lay down some newspaper, towels or blankets and set her on them. Then just stroke her back until she calms down, and give her a tiny bit of warm milk. Milk is bad for kittens in large quantities. A clock that ticks works well if you want them to go to sleep. I set a small clock by my kitten and it makes her sleepy.
