It's too bad that after 10 years you don't care about your dog even a little bit! This dog very obviously needs to go see his vet - at his age, he likely has some arthritis - which, by the way, is very treatable so he won't be in any pain! If he coughs up his hair, you should be wondering why he's not getting brushed and what else is wrong with him that he's licking himself so much.

Get this poor dog to the vet - he should be having geriatric bloodwork done at least once a year when he's in for his physical!

Why put your dog to sleep unless its strictly necessary? Your rushing into a decision here. First its most likely arthritis and as your dog is coughing up hair......Im guessing he is a long haired dog.....this is a hair ball. Take him to the Vet for some arthritis medication and dont let your dog run up and down the stairs or jump on the sofa. Help him up. Medication will work but its your choice.

Your the one who is hard headed. I agree with the rest your dads dog might have arthritis and it is treatable just like for people. Tell you dad to take him to the vet and they will do something and also buy food and other items for older dogs they sell it at almost every store. Tell your dad your dog will be okay just take him to the vet.
DONT PUT IT TO SLEEP HE'LL BE OKAY

Dogs get arthritis. Have the vet do a health check and if it's only that there are 2 meds (they are both chewable and given once a day) Deramaxx and Rimadyl that can handle the problem in no time flat.

Dogs don't live forever, take your dog to a vet and get a check up. Could be something treatable or could be old age. Heck he might die on his own in the mean time.

if your dog is in pain i should not suffer but dogs do always tell you when it is time for them to go they understand when it is time and will let you know... my dog was fine or so it appeared he wass a husky who loved to run more then anything he is and was my brother i miss him with all my heart but ay ways he couldnt run any more like he used to he would run ocasionally one day he was giving me alot of attention more then usual and that night his stomech inverted in on itself and inflated with air he hated being pet and should have been ripping me to shreds concidering how much pain he was in but he just lapped up the love he knew he was ginna die and let me and wanted me to hod him close he sufferd for no less than 5 or 6 hours i think the time totel of horribly suffering was half an hour he went fast i held him close to me he was my brother of eleven years i couldent remember life be fore he ws there i wan only three when i got him ....

honestly it was his time he let us know and dies peacfully in our arms
