Check the web site for The Stuttering Foundation at www.stutteringhelp.org as there is a world of information for helping young children who start stuttering. Tics often go along with stuttering and these things could be totally separate from ADHD. Read the tips on talking with someone who stutters and the helpful information about the pace of the household. Several of my uncles and cousins stuttered, and our family learned how to help them with the techniques learned from the books, brochures, and DVDs.

My son (now 18) was diagnosed with ADHD at 5 yrs old. I refused to put him on meds. After several YEARS of doctors appointments & evaluations one psychotherapist pointed out that he also had Very mild ticks (it was some time ago so I don‘t remember the details of his assumptions).

But I do remember one thing he said about it. Often times some behaviors that are 'diagnosed' as ADHD are actually ticks themselves. From my experience ADD/ADHD is so over diagnosed and over medicated and Under researched that there just aren't enough Doctors/researches out there looking for alternatives to meds. With the ticks, there may be More to the situation on a neurological side. I would definitely find a GOOD neurologist to get him checked out properly.

Two books I would highly recommend both by author Thom Hartmann are:

“ADD : Simple Exercises That Will Change Your Daily Life”
ISBN: 1887424377

“Deficit Disorder : A Different Perception”
ISBN: 1887424148

Hope this helps - Good luck & best wishes to you and your family.

It might or might not be related to his ADHD, only a doctor can say for sure. In order to not stress about it too much and in order to get him some help for this, i think a doctor visit could be a very good thing. The tic and the stuttering could cause a lot of problems for your son since other kids tend to tease and/or ignore anyone who is not "normal" to them, so you would be doing him a big favor by having a doctor treat this.

hi, yes tics & stuttering can be linked to ADHD.. my son used to stutter alot but has grown out of it now(he's nearly 12). he gets stages where he blinks quite often and sniffs loudly which can be very annoying at times.. his doctor has said that tics can be linked to medication as my son didnt have these sort of symtoms before... he also fidgets , screams alot and gets very angry for the slightest thing , but is more relaxed after his medication has kicked in... hope this helps x
