I can't remember who invented it but it was originally developed for use by the U.S.A. government and military for confidential communication.

The "Internets", how George W. Bush says " the Internet" is in fact a series of tubes that were invented by Al Gore. It is not a dumb truck! It's a series of tubes that if you put too much information in them, they get jammed. For examples, 2 weeks ago, my friend, Sexy Julio a.k.a Rico Suave, sent me, through the Internets, through this e-mail thing, one of his "hot" pics. I didn't get that pic until yesterday! This shows that if you put too much information, and if there's too much information in the Internets, then it will get jammed and go down and crash and won't work because they are TUBES!

The internet was actually developed from Amatuer radio enthusiast. It was internet over radio, before it was internet over other media.
The story goes that an amatuer radio operator was frustrated that a "Repeater" was often being hogged by other amatuer radio operators.
So, the guy thought of a way to timeslice the Repeater so everybody got an equal opportunity to use the repeater by sending "packets" of data.
A person would send some data. The repeater would store that data on a tape recorder and when the time came, the repeater would forward that data. Simple, but effective.
I read that a long time ago in an amatuer radio article. It really made sense. That idea was just applied to computers, so no one user can't hog a "router" or repeater.
I don't know where to find that article, but you may want to research it.

Yes, that was a joke. However, Cerf really was one of the Internet's many co-inventors, and he really is hard of hearing.
