what's the cause of Blackheads?

The cause of blackheads is a build up of dirt in the pores, it can be grease from skin, or external dirt, but either way they will block the pores and harden until you squeeze them and open up the pore. Do that, and then put on a lotion or skin cleaner to stop them coming back.

Blackheads named for their typically dark colour, are considered an open comedo. The sebum plug has reached the surface of the skin. The colour of the blackhead is not caused by dirt, but by excess skin pigment, debris and skin particles. Avoid squeezing and popping the blackheads unless under the direct supervision of a medical professional. Squeezing or popping them can lead to skin trauma and infection. If, however, it is a problem, cover it with a hot wet cloth (not hot enough to cause injury), and after a few minutes, press the circular end of a safety pin over the blackhead, so that the blackhead appears in the centre of the ring, and gently press down. It should express with the pressure.
Hope this helps

I use Pro - active for my skin, blackheads, cysts, you name it.

However, my husband uses those nose strips every week and the strip removes the blackheads well.

In general, wash your skin using a cleanser, toner, and moisturizer. The toner removes the excess oil that gets trapped in the pores. As long as the whole system includes benzoyl peroxide 10% you're good. Salicylic acid is in OTC products and it never does anything for my skin.

Go to your doctor or consult with a dermatologist for the best advice. or, just try proactiv. The trick is consistency.
