For all the single people out there who have dating or currently are - I am finding my current one to be extremely frustrating at times, and while I believe he has many great qualities and is a genuine nice guy, why do I feel like I would be settling with him because he is not the greatest at communication and he is not that affectionate at times (2 qualities I really want in a guy). To me, communication is extremely important, and he said he would work on that one. But he said he is not a "romantic" kind of guy, so would I just be settling if I know that this is not how he is? I hate to throw away such a nice guy, but I guess simple things like holding hands in public or showing that you are with and really like the other person are important to me.....So to single people out there, tell me your experiences and how you have learned when it is time to leave a relationship that while good, is not ideal....

I def hear what your saying. I know that you can't have everything and no one is perfect but at the same time you have to pick what things are important to you. If communication and affection are very important ( which they are to me too) then by being with this guy you are settling. Pick the most important characteristics and look for someone with those. Remember no one will ever be perfect but you know what things you need in the other person and if he doesn't possess them then you may never be happy with him! Good luck!

Change an the realization for need of change take time. But without verbal communication there is little. People communicate primarily thru body language, probably 90%. If somebody says they will do something, but within a reasonable period of time you see no results and when the subject is brought up you continue to get negative response; anger, a change of subject, a slight moving away, chances are the relationship is not that important to that person or they don't know that it is. if you feel there is no results in a reasonable period time then ask if they would be happier with some one else. A woman is a gift from GOD and to be respected as such and appreciated as such. what greater treasure can a man have on this earth other than a good woman, a good companion?

Getting to know persons of the opposite sex can be a good experience if you let it.Its almost always a learning process.Finding what you like,dislike,turn-ons,and turn offs.I dont think just settling is very good because you wont be truly happy. It takes time and effort to find someone that's right for you and vise-versa.It is frustrating I know, Im 34 and still haven't found "her".I have had long relationships and also have been engaged and I thank God they were'nt the one.It would have been a disaster.Listen to your heart and look at where the relationship is going.

Do you love him? How would you feel if he left you? Can you take him or leave him? You need to think about how you feel for real because if you let him go you could regret it later.

Imagine him with another woman. Does your blood boil or do you think oh well, who cares?

There is no perfect guy. Your ideals are good, but focus on being the best person in the relationship and what you can do to make him happy first. You may discover he is more romantic than he realized. Good books or audio books are His Needs, Her Needs, The Five Love Languages, and For Women Only.

Good luck.

I agree, got to have communication. But also need affection.I dated a few times with those kinds. Some guys aren't affectionate because they weren't tought that. Some are shy,and some are just weird. Can always keep the friendship-friendship is good. But could look for a more affectionat guy.

If he's actually working on trying to be romantic, cut him some slack. Otherwise, maybe you should look elsewhere. People are different, and it takes time to appreciate that; on the other hand, if there's no effort, then it's not as rewarding.

You should never settle just for the sake of settling. If your relationship isn't 100% satisfactory, it's probably better to leave it behind and celebrate your freedom from men.

that is a gamble you're going to have to take. If you dont settle then u risk the chance of being alone. if you break up with him you have better options.

Date him and have fun, unless you want him as a long term friend.

Once you date, you'll find much more things you like and don't like about him, what do you have to lose?
